Kathmandu: In a bid to do away with symbols of the 240-year old former monarchy, Nepal's Maoist led government today changed the names of three municipalities of western Nepal which were named after ex-Kings.
As per the decision made by today s cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Prachanda, Prithvinarayan Municipality is named as Gorkha Municipality, Tribhuvan Municipality has become Ghorahi Municipality.
While Mahendra Nagar Municipality has become Bhim Dutta Municipality, according to official sources. Mahendra was the father of dethroned King Gyanendra where as Tribhuvan was his grand father.
Prithvinarayan was the ancestor of Gyanendra who unified small states into Nepal some 240 years ago.
