Badal reviews arrangement for youth festival

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government would host the 14th National Youth Festival at Amritsar from 12th to 16th January 2009.

An announcement to this effect was made by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here late last evening while presiding over a high level review meeting to finalize the arrangements for this mega-Youth Festival in which more than 3000 youth along with their team in-charge and supporting staff from all over the country were expected to participate.

Badal said that the state government would ensure free boarding and lodging to all the visiting students/participants and staff besides, transportation facility to enable them to visit tourist places of interest to acquaint them with the glorious and rich cultural heritage of Punjab.

Badal directed all the concerned departments to work in unison with the Punjab Youth Services Department to make elaborate arrangements for the success of the Festival and gave his approval to constitute 12 Sub Committees in this regard.

He also directed the local administration to setup a Control Room at Amritsar to provide all necessary information and assistance for the logistic support to the visitors.

Badal also asked the Guru Nanak Dev University to reschedule its holidays in view of this mega event so that the premises of university could be utilized for this event.
