Dhaka: The apex court in Bangladesh has summoned doctors accused of issuing a "false" medical certificate, used for getting bail by a high-profile politician in graft cases.
The Supreme Court registrar has issued summons to the 11 doctors of a state-run facility to appear before the Chief Justice on November 9 on charges of issuing a false medical certificate to former lawmaker of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and media tycoon, Mosaddek Ali Falu, official sources said.
Earlier, the apex court had stayed the High Court bail order got by Falu using the false medical certificate issued by the doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) moved to Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to vacate the bail and stay orders in four graft cases.
Meanwhile, a High Court bench, hearing the bail petition of the influential politician-turned businessman Falu, who owns two TV channels and two newspapers, asked the ACC to produce investigation report of the medical board about the health of the former BNP minister.
The court order came as questions have been raised on the medical reports submitted on behalf of some "VIP accused" who were being tried on graft charges as part of the massive anti-graft campaign of the current interim government in emergency-ruled Bangladesh, ACC counsel Anisul Huq told PTI.
