Jammu: Ninety eight rusted grenades were recovered by the police near the International Border in Supwal area of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police officer said today.

The locals of the area during construction work of a bridge spotted the grenades in a bag, which was partly buried in sand in Supwal area of the district yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police Samba Rabhubir Singh said today.

Police rushed to the site after being informed by the locals, he said, adding the area was cordoned off and bomb disposal squad was called in which recovered the bag containing 98 grenades.

These rusted grenades are mostly dead and are believed to have been dumped at the site about two and a half years back, Singh said.
