Madurai: MDMK MLA V Veera Elavarasan, who suffered a heart attack on Wednesday, died at a private hospital here today.
Elavarasan (48) is survived by wife and two children.
The MLA suffered a massive heart attack when he was at the party office here and was admitted to the Meenakshi Mission Hospital by his partymen immediately. He failed to respond to the treatment and died this morning, hospital sources said.
Elavarasan was elected to Tamil Nadu Assembly from Tirumangalam constituency in 2006,defeating DMK District Secretary Veluchamy by a margin of 4,144 votes.
He was also jailed along with party General Secretary Vaiko for 19 months under POTA during the previous AIADMK regime for speaking in support of banned LTTE at a public meeting in Tirumangalam.
Elavarasan had unsuccessfully contested in 1989,1996 and 2001 assembly elections.
He started his Political career with DMK and was the local union secretary of the Party. He joined the MDMK when it was founded in 1991.
Paying homage to the leader, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko said, Elavarasan was an ardent follower of Dravidian leader C N Annadurai's policies and his death was a great loss to the Party. Source : PTI
