National highways broadening will complete by 2012

Kopargaon: The work of broadening 50,000 kilometre national highways would complete by 2012,Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highway K H Munyappa said here today.

"The Government has already sanctioned Rs 2.25 lakh crore for broadening the highways," Munyappa said here in a press conference. It is expected that the completion of the project would save 30 per cent of fuel, the minister said.

On the ambitious Golden Quadrangle project, he said the lenghts of the roads have been increased to 6,500 kilometre and the first phase would be completed soon.
