CPM announces 1st list of candidates for J-K polls

Srinagar: The CPI(M) today announced a list of five candidates for the upcoming seven-phase assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir beginning November 17.

The party, which had two MLAs in the dissolved assembly, has fielded sitting MLA from Wachi in Shopian district Mohammad Khalil Naik, a party release said.

The other candidates are Ghulam Nabi Malik from Dooru in Anantnag district, Mohammad Yaqoob Ganie from Devsar, Mohammad Amin Dar from Homshalibugh (both in Kulgam district) and Mahinder Singh from Kathua constituency in Kathua district, it added.

The release said the second list of candidates will be announced very soon. State secretary of the party M Y Tarigami, a two-time MLA from Kulgam constituency, is expected to seek a third term.
