Two arrested for raping Uttar Pradesh schoolgirl
Saturday, November 08, 2008 17:08 [IST]

Lucknow: Two of the three youths who raped a schoolgirl in an Uttar Pradesh village have been arrested, the police said Saturday.

"A resident of Mehmoodpur village in Sultanpur district, the 14-year old victim on Thursday evening registered the complaint that she was gangraped," police inspector D.R. Verma told IANS by phone.

We have detained Lalji and Satish, who are in their early twenties, and are questioning them about the third youth, he added.

A named FIR was lodged against three youths of the same village.

According to the victim, the three youths of her locality kidnapped her while she was returning from school and raped her at a secluded place, the police said.

The schoolgirl's medical tests have been conducted and the police are waiting for the report.

"We hope to receive the report by (Saturday) evening but we also suspect the allegations to be a fallout of differences between two communities," Verma said.

Sultanpur is some 150 km from here.
