Three youth held for abducting IAS officer
Saturday, November 08, 2008 20:08 [IST]

Raipur: Three men were arrested Saturday for allegedly attempting to abduct an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer after a minor brawl, a Chhattisgarh police officer said.

The men, in their late 20s, tried to kidnap V. Shashank Shekhar from the Geetanjali Express train he was travelling in from Nagpur to Ranchi, Vivekanand Sinha, superintendent of police, said.

Shekhar is posted in Nagaland.

"Shekhar had a brawl with Saurav Baghwani (one of the accused) over a berth in the train early Saturday," Sinha told IANS.

"When the train reached Raipur, Saurav's two friends, Deepak and Suresh, boarded it", and the three kidnapped the officer from the Bilaspur junction.

They then took him in a vehicle towards Raipur. But Shekhar alerted the police at a busy square in Bilaspur near a traffic signal.

The arrested youths belong to Raipur, the police officer said.
