New Delhi:The Election Commission today launched an audio-visual campaign in the national capital to encourage around 39 lakh young voters to exercise their franchise.
Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi launched the campaign which aims to encourage young electors to take part in the assembly elections 2008.
"This campaign is aimed at creating voter awareness among young lot to motivate them to vote," Bedi said addressing a press conference.
"It has been observed that the voters of age group 18-29 years have different priorities in their lives. We will try to build an impression that casting the ballot will enhance their status," she said.
Bedi said the campaign aims at making the young adults aware of their responsibilities towards voting.
The audio visual campaign has been developed reframing lines of popular songs like "Pappu can dance" from the hit movie Jane Tu.. Ya Jane Na .
"We will use radio, TV and print media to spread the message," she said adding that similar campaigns will be launched for other segment of the population also.
We will also put up hoardings at the strategic locations across Delhi.
She said the total number of youth population is around 39 lakh in the city.
Bedi said her office will complete distribution of photo Identity cards to the electorate in next seven days. Source : PTI
