'Rahul Raj was alive when carried into the police van'
Sunday, November 09, 2008 08:58 [IST]

Mumbai: Surya Prakash Dubey, a journalist with a regional cable news channel, was one of the witnesses of the Rahul Raj Singh drama that unfolded on October 26. Dubey was travelling in the BEST bus, which was near Bail bazar in Kurla.

"I saw the bus stop. Rahul Raj had a gun in his hand. I heard him saying he wanted to talk to Raj Thackeray or the Mumbai police commissioner," Dubey told DNA.

"Rahul fired twice in the air and had his hands raised. Later, I saw a police officer climb into the vehicle and fire at Rahul," he added.

By then Dubey had alighted from his bus and gone near the scene of action.

"After he was shot, Rahul was taken out on a stretcher. I clearly saw him bleeding from his stomach. But he was still alive. The police then put the stretcher inside the van," said Dubey.

Dubey says he is not sure if Rahul died on the way. "I left the minute I saw the police take Rahul in the van and it didnt look like he was injured anywhere else." said Dubey.
