Washington: A solid majority of Americans believe Barack Obama will do a "good job" as President, a latest survey showed, but pointed out that there is still a racial divide on how the transition will play out for the first African-American commander-in-chief of the US.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corp poll shows that 57 per cent of Americans overall believe the hand-over of power will be "relatively easy". Interestingly, 63 per cent of whites and only 48 per cent of blacks feel that.
Nearly the same number of black respondents, 47 per cent, said they believe the transition will be "relatively difficult."
The survey also showed that incumbent George W Bush s approval rating is at an all-time low, 24 per cent, and there was also a racial difference on how he is handling the job.
While the President s approval rating is at 27 per cent among whites, it is at 5 per cent among blacks.
That s down from 12 per cent in February, the last time the CNN poll gave a break-up of the race of respondents.
The CNN survey has shown that 64 per cent have a positive view of what President-elect Obama has done since the election and that 75 per cent believe he will do a very good or fairly good job as president.
Black respondents were significantly more optimistic, with 90 per cent having a positive view of Obama's actions and 85 per cent saying they believe he will do a "very good" job in office. Source : PTI
