Ahmedabad serial blasts: Accused sent to custody

Ahmedabad: Twenty three accused, including three brought from Mumbai and five brought from Delhi in connection with Ahmedabad serial blasts, were sent to police custody by a Metropolitan Court here Wednesday.

Twenty accused were produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate G M Patel after their police custody ended Wednesday. Three accused, Fazal-e-Rehman, Mohammed Akbar Ismail Chaudhary and Anik Shafique Sayed, were also produced in court after they were brought on transit remand from Mumbai. They were arrested by the Mumbai police on October 6.

They were granted police custody till November 24 for their alleged involvement in blast that took place in Maninagar area of the city. Fourteen out of the 20, including SIMI leader Safdar Nagori, Mufti Abu Basher and Sajid Mansuri, were sent to police custody till November 18.

Five accused in the Delhi blast along with Mohammad Ali from Madhya Pradesh, brought here for interrogation in connection with the July 26 serial blasts, were sent to police custody till November 20 in a case registered under the Maninagar police station.

With the inclusion of three brought from Mumbai today, number of the accused under custody of Gujarat police has gone up to 44. Last week the court had sent 13 accused in the blasts cases to judicial custody.
