Kabul: A car bomb struck a US military convoy in eastern Afghanistan today, wounding an American soldier, a US military spokesman said.
The attack happened outside Jalalabad, the capital of the eastern Nangarhar province, said Sgt. First Class Joel Peavy. Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the provincial governor, said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber in the city's Bati Kot district.
Abdulzai said he was checking reports that there were civilian casualties in the blast.
An Associated Press photographer saw a vehicle with several wounded civilians being driven to Jalalabad. Taliban militants regularly use suicide attackers and car bombs in their assaults against US, Afghan and other foreign troops in the country.
On Wednesday, a truck bomb in southern Afghanistan killed six people and wounded 42.
The blast in Kandahar city, the Taliban's former stronghold, came as the provincial council was hearing constituent complaints. Two members of the provincial council were wounded in the attack, said Kandahar's Gov. Rahmatullah Raufi.
