J-K bans carrying of licensed weapons

Jammu: To avoid any untoward incident during the assembly polls, the Jammu and Kashmir government has banned carrying of weapons by license holders till the elections in Kathua district of the state, a senior official said.

"We have banned carrying of weapons and ammunition by arms license holders till the declaration of results of 2008 assembly elections in the district," Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Kathua Mandeep Kour said.

This has been done on the recommendation of the senior superintendent of police, Kathua, he said, adding directions has issued warning people that they would be punished for violations under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code.
