Thursday, November 13, 2008 16:50 [IST]
Kuala Lumpur: The Indian billionaire club seems to be top-heavy in terms of age of its members, with three out of every four being at least 50-year old.

In the latest list of Forbes 40 richest Indians, there are a total of 27 persons with a net worth of at least one billion dollars. This include 21 persons aged 50 or above, while only six of them are below 50 years.

While Mukesh Ambani leads the overall rankings with a net worth of USD 20.8 billion, his estranged younger brother Anil is the richest among those below 50 years of age.

Anil Ambani is followed by Kumar Mangalam Birla (USD 4 billion), Gautam Adani (USD 3.9 billion), Malvinder and Shivinder Singh (USD 2.8 billion), Uday Kotak (USD 1.55 billion), Anurag Dikshit (USD 1.25 billion) and Kalanithi Maran (USD 1.2 billion) among the below-50 billionaires.

Interestingly, all the below-50 persons on the overall list of 40 richest Indians are billionaires. The 13 persons included in the list, but have a net worth of below USD 1 billion, are all aged 50 or above.

Forbes has identified Malvinder Shivinder Singh as well as Shashi and Ravi Ruia as single-family entities.

Along with Anurag Dikshit, Malvinder and Shivinder Singh are the youngest in the lot, aged 36 years.

On the other hand, Kushal Pal Singh (USD 7.8 billion) and Jaiprakash Gaur (USD 890 million), both of them aged 77 years old, are the oldest in the list.

Further, the two women in the list -- Savitri Jindal and Indu Jain -- are aged 59 years and 72 years, respectively.

Savitri Jindal, Chairperson of O P Jindal Group, ranked 12th is the richest woman with a net worth of USD 2.9 billion.

Bennett, Coleman Co's Chairperson Indu Jain has a net worth of USD 1.8 billion and is placed at the 17th position.
