Chandigarh: BJPs prime minister candidate LK Advani on Sunday lambasted the UPA government for "resorting to cheap vote-bank politics by floating a new theory of Hindu terror".
Addressing a public meeting here, Advani, who is leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said terrorist would only be a terrorist. He is a criminal and could be from any sect or religion. By floating anew theory of Hindu terror in the context of the Malegaon blast case investigation, the UPA government was "playing to the gallery with forthcoming elections on mind".
He said during the Punjab militancy, it was not Sikh terrorism. Nor is it ever a Muslim terrorism. Calling the UPA governments performance on the anti-terrorist front as "one of the poorest", the former deputy prime minister said that in the past five years, there had been not a single conviction in the terrorist incidents. "The UPA government had even failed to carry out conviction in the Parliament attack incident which demonstrated amply its insincerity to deal with the problem," he added.
On the contrary, during the NDA rule, he said, not a single terrorist went scot-free as the government came down heavily on subversive elements.
He said the UPAs soft approach to terrorism was also reflected in prime minister Manmohan Singhs statement that Pakistan was "also plagued with terrorism". He said the prime ministers defence for Pakistan, which had been a breeding ground of militants, indicated that he was giving a clean certificate to Pakistan. He recalled how "sternly the NDA government had dealt with then Pakistan president Musharraf to keep the terrorism at bay.
Promising to bring about a "miracle government" if the NDA was voted to power, Advani said the nation needed to get prepared to meet the challenges of 21st century and the NDA was prepared with a blueprint for that.
