The workers were lifted out of the flooded shaft at 0603 local time (0333 IST), official Xinhua news agency reported.

The Gaomendong coal mine in Jiaxian county of Pingdingshan city was flooded when 42 workers were working last morning.

Eight of the 42 workers managed to flee from the site while 34 were trapped, the state agency said citing provincial work safety administration.
