China coal mine tragedy: 1 dead, 33 miners rescued

Beijing: One miner died while 33 others were rescued from a flooded coal mine in China s central province of Henan early this morning, nearly after 24 hours the accident.
The workers were lifted out of the flooded shaft at 0603 local time (0333 IST), official Xinhua news agency reported.
The Gaomendong coal mine in Jiaxian county of Pingdingshan city was flooded when 42 workers were working last morning.
Eight of the 42 workers managed to flee from the site while 34 were trapped, the state agency said citing provincial work safety administration.
Deputy Director of the administration, Wang Dexue, reached the spot to supervise the probe being carried out to know the cause of the flooding.
China has a very dismal mine safety record. According to official figures, nearly 3,800 people have died in the coal mines last year.
