Tuesday, November 18, 2008 14:05 [IST]

Islamabad: Turkey today deported 250 Pakistanis who had entered that country with fake travel documents in an attempt to reach Europe, the second such batch of illegal immigrants sent back home within three months.

The deportees, who reached the Islamabad airport on a PIA flight, would be questioned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in order to track down human traffickers who had given them fake documents.

According to the immigration authorities, most of the deportees belonged to the central Punjab province and some others were from North West Frontier Province.

It was the second batch of Pakistanis to be deported from Turkey in three months. In September, a group of 312 illegal Pakistani immigrants were sent back by Turkey.

The deportees claimed that the human traffickers had received between Rs 50,000 and Rs six lakh for each person. They said that they had gone to Turkey by road early this year in their attempt to reach Europe.
