Tuesday, November 18, 2008 14:41 [IST]
New Delhi: IGNOU today launched its much-touted SMS service for its students and staff across the country to keep them updated about various programmes and initiatives of the varsity.

"This service will enable IGNOU to send SMS alerts to students from time to time about various developments," said University Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai, while launching the service, which has been initiated as a pilot project, on the varsity campus.

At present, IGNOU has about 20 lakh students enrolled in its various programmes.

IGNOU also plans to declare results through SMS, the Vice Chancellor said.

He said future SMS services will enable students check their marks and information about their profile on demand. They can even update their profiles through SMS like their address and contact numbers to enable the varsity send study materials to them on time.
