Tuesday, November 18, 2008 15:03 [IST]
Nagaon (Assam): A tiger attacked six persons and injured them in central Assam's Nagaon district early this morning, official sources said.

The tiger pounced on the six persons at Gormukh Tengajan village, under Kampur police station, as they were going to pray at a mosque around 4.30 am, the sources said.

The injured, aged between 30 and 35 years were admitted to the Nagaon Civil Hospital.

The six - Hazrat Ali, Nazimuddin, Abdul Ajit, Umar Farooq, Abdul Aziz and Alaluddin, all in their thirties - were admitted to the Nagaon Civil Hospital. The condition of two of them was stated to be serious.

Nazimuddin was attacked first and the animal gorged out an eye of his. It then pounced on the others when they attempted to save their friend, the sources said.

Forest officials have rushed to the site and were keeping a watch on the tiger that was spotted by the local people after the incident, the sources added.
