Kabul: At least 26 people have been killed in fighting in Afghanistan, officials said Tuesday.

Air raids on a suspected Taliban hideout in Paktika province in eastern Afghanistan killed 20 people, provincial governor Mohammad Akram Khapalwak said.

"The US-led Coalition forces carried out air attacks against Taliban rebels in Barmal district Monday evening killing 20 insurgents on the spot," he said.

Barmal is situated close to the volatile tribal areas of Pakistan.

In another incident, militants killed six soldiers in Farah province in the western part of the country Monday, Fazal Ahmad Sayar, a senior military officer in the region said.

He said that five soldiers were killed and five were injured in the two-hour battle in Bala Buluk district, and the militants beheaded one soldier after injuring him.
