Three die after falling off overcrowded train

Kolkata: Three people died and three others were seriously injured after they fell off from an overcrowded train Wednesday in West Bengal, a railway official here said.

Six people fell off an overcrowded local train near Belghoria station, on the outskirts of Kolkata, at around 10.30 a.m and two of them, identified as Amit Chakraborty and Ananda Biswas, died on the spot, divisional railway manager of Eastern Railway's Sealdah division, Satyendra Kumar told reporters.

Another passenger succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while the condition of other three is serious, he added

Following the incident, local residents and train passengers blockaded the railway tracks for about three hours, demanding additional compartments in local trains to avoid overcrowding during office hours.
