Pune: In an interesting turn of events, Khadki police on Wednesday told the court that they suspect Sameer Kulkarni to have been involved in the recent attacks on Christians in Orissa.
Producing Sameer Kulkarni before judicial magistrate (First Class), Renuka Satav, at the Khadki Cantonment Court, the Khadki police claimed that the former, after his suspected role in the assault of a pastor last year in the city, visited Nashik, Malegaon and various places in Madhya Pradesh.
Kulkarni was remanded in a days police custody by the court and will be produced again on Thursday.
The Khadki police on Tuesday obtained custody of Malegaon blast suspect Kulkarni from a Nashik court for further interrogation in the attack on Vineyard Workers Church pastor, Peter David Silway, last year. Kulkarni was arrested by the anti terrorism squad (ATS), Mumbai, on October 29 in connection with Malegaon bomb blast.
Senior police inspector Ashok Shejal and police inspector Pandurang Sahane had secured Kulkarni's custody on Tuesday from the Nashik Road jail. Police said they suspect Kulkarni may be involved in the recent attacks on the Christian community in Orissa, and wished to thoroughly investigated it. Shejal however failed to explain to the court why the Khadki police would want to interrogate the attacks on Christians in Orissa.
