Gaya/Nalanda: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today inaugurated two engineering colleges in Gaya and in Nalanda districts of south Bihar.
Inaugurating the Gaya Engineering College rechristened as Magadh Engineering College lying closed for the past 22 years and Nalanda Engineering College at Chandi in his home district, Kumar said his government was committed to give a boost to education and opening of the two engineering colleges was a step in that direction.
Not a single engineering college was opened during the past 20 years in Bihar, he said adding within three years of NDA rule four engineering colleges were set up.
Apart from these two institutes, two more engineering colleges at Motihari and Darbhanga would start functioning from tomorrow. The government has also given a go-ahead for setting up three more engineering college, Kumar said.
Engineering colleges apart, the state government has also petitioned to the Medical Council of India to give its clearance to set up five more medical colleges and grant permission to start post graduate courses in existing medical colleges as well as enhancing the number of seats.
The government has allowed private parties to set up medical and technical institutes in the state, Kumar said adding that due to the liberal policy of the government the Birla Institute of Technology opened its branch in Patna for which it have beeb provided land and financial assistance.
