Attack on me reflects BJP's frustration: Jogi
Thursday, November 20, 2008 13:52 [IST]

Raipur: Former Chhattisgarh chief minister and Congress leader Ajit Jogi was unhurt Thursday when some people threw stones at his convoy in Bilaspur district on the second and final day of polling. Jogi is contesting assembly elections from a seat in the district.

Police said the attack took place in village Girbar after he halted at a polling station along with dozens of supporters. Voting was in progress there.

"It was a minor incident and Jogi escaped unhurt. No arrest has been made but Jogi's security has been tightened," a police source told IANS.

Jogi said the attack was the result of "sheer frustration of state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)".

"Some anti-social elements from the bordering Madhya Pradesh and BJP workers attacked my convoy in an area close to the Madhya Pradesh border," Jogi told IANS on phone from Marwahi constituency, some 280 km from here.

"I have informed the police and will be sending details to senior election officials; the attack is a sign of sheer frustration in the BJP ranks as it is set to suffer a humiliating defeat," Jogi held.
