Assam govt orders inquiry into Ganeshguri violence

Guwahati: The Assam government has ordered an inquiry into the incidents of violence in Ganeshguri area here following the serial blasts there on October 30.

Official sources said former Director General of Police Deepak Narayan Dutt would conduct the high-level probe into the incidents of damage to property in the aftermath of the explosions.

Dutt would have to present his report within one month, the sources said.

Meanwhile, police arrested three persons for allegedly setting ablaze an ambulance, a fire-tender and for causing damage to property in the Ganeshguri area after the blasts that killed several persons and injured many others.

The three are Gagan Mahanta, Montu Khandakar and Dhan Barman, police said.

The trio were identified from news television channels video footage and still photographs taken during the mayhem, police said.

More arrests were likely, the police added.
