Thursday, November 20, 2008 16:01 [IST]

New Delhi: A memorial to former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar would be erected at the national capital.

A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today approved construction and maintenance of the samadhi at the spot where the late leader was cremated, Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chavan said.

Chandrashekhar, who died on July eight last year, was cremated at the Ekta Sthal on the banks of the Yamuna here.

The design of the memorial would be similar to the samadhis of other national leaders in the vicinity.
