Manipur govt wants NSG security for Ibobi Singh
Thursday, November 20, 2008 17:11 [IST]

Imphal: Manipur government has demanded National Security Guards (NSG) cover for Chief Minister Ibobi Singh from the Union Home ministry in view of threats to him from militant groups, official sources said today.

The proposal for NSG protection for Singh was made during a recent meeting at Delhi presided over by National Security Advisor K M Narayanan to review the state's law and order. Manipur Director General of Police Y Joy Kumar gave a detailed briefing of law and order in the state where more than 353 persons were killed in militancy-related crimes this year, the sources said. Kumar also stressed the need for deployment of forces on national highways because of frequent disturbances by militants.
