Police constable consumes poison, survives

Ghaziabad: A police constable in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh attempted suicide after he was taken to task by a senior officer for not performing his duty properly, the police said Thursday.

The incident occurred Wednesday night at the Muradnagar police station premises in Ghaziabad district. The Superintendent of Police (Rural) Jagdish Sharma said: "Circle Officer Kalyan Singh chided constable Dharmendra when he was found lax in an assignment of preparing a list of illegal vehicles plying in the police station area." "Following the rebuke the constable went to his residence and consumed some poisonous substance.

He was found by his colleagues, who rushed him to the hospital, where his stomach was washed. He is now feeling better," Sharma said "No legal or departmental action has been initiated against the constable since he had suffered a lot in the past," Sharma added.
