Rahul to campaign in Delhi on Nov 26
Friday, November 21, 2008 14:36 [IST]

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally in a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in east Delhi on November 26.

The leader was scheduled to adrress the rally on November 25 but due to his other commitments, the rally was postponed by a day.

"As he has to leave for Madhya Pradesh on November 25 for some poll meeting he will not be available in the capital. Hence, now the date has been postponed by a day," Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief JP Agarwal told PTI.

However, he said, the venue remains the same at GTB Enclave in Dilshad Garden, which is a part of the Seemapuri Assembly constituency.

The Congress hopes to cash in on Rahul factor to negate the growing influence of Mayawati-led BSP in the national capital.

This will be the first-ever election rally of Gandhi in the capital which is going to polls on November 29.

Eying Dalit votes, the BSP chief has decided to hold at least three rallies in Delhi.

Veer Singh Dhingan, the Congress candidate from Seemapuri, and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and other party MPs will attend the Rahul s rally.

Though Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Gandhi are scheduled to campaign in poll-bound Delhi, the party hopes the Gandhi scion, who has a mass appeal, will turn the fortunes in its favour.

Sonia will address a public meeting on November 23 in Mangolpuri while Singh will attend a rally in Dakshinpuri on November 27.
