New Delhi: Not only citizens, even political parties are now using the RTI Act to their advantage in this election season.
The BJP had formed an RTI Cell three months back to collect information from the Delhi Government as part of their preparation to take on the Congress in the November 29 assembly election.
The party has already procured vital statistics from various government departments and are now planning to use these details in the campaign to target the ruling party.
"Sarkar ka Hathiyar, Sarkar par hi Waar (attacking the government with its own weapon) was the idea behind it," said a senior party leader who was part of the think tank which proposed the formation of the cell.
Talking to PTI, President of the cell Sumita Bharadwaj said the RTI cell was formed after the party realised that there was a "huge gap between Government's claim about various schemes and their actual implementation."
She alleged that through the RTI route they came to know about "large-scale irregularities and scams" in many schemes details of which have been forwarded to party's chief ministerial candidate V K Malhotra and Delhi unit chief Harsh Vardhan to "nail" the government.
