NC leadership is puppet of New Delhi: Mufti
Friday, November 21, 2008 18:38 [IST]

Jammu: Terming National Conference (NC) leadership as puppets in the hands of the Centre, former Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Thursday lambasted the NC for deceiving people of J&K for the lust of power.

"Instead of fulfilling wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, leaders of the successive NC regimes brazenly behaved like puppets in the hands of their political masters at Delhi for lust of the power," Sayeed said while addressing an election rally in Budhal and Drath areas of Rajouri district.

Sayeed reminded the gathering that NC government, with two third majority in the assembly at its command, had passed the autonomy resolution but the same was thrown into the dustbin by the then NDA government headed by BJP in which NC was also a coalition partner.

"Instead of taking a clear stand on that issue, NC leadership preferred to remain in the NDA for the lust of power," he said and reminded the gathering that NC leader Omar Abdullah was the Union minister in the NDA government which had rejected the autonomy proposal.

Sayeed said his party has presented the self-rule document and asserted the proposal presented by his party is the workable and viable solution of the Kashmir problem.

Reiterating PDP commitment to decentralise the power at grass-root level, he assured that party has formulated a comprehensive plan in its self-rule proposal to remove social, economic and political injustice with inhabitants of border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

The PDP patron sought absolute majority for his party in the ongoing assembly elections so that revolutionary policies being propagated by the party be implemented without any hindrance.

He said in short span of just three years, PDP has already carved out a path of peace in this region and convinced both India and Pakistan to take some concrete steps for restoring sustainable peace in this sub-continent.
