Rajiv Gandhi offered me 10-Janpath: Advani
Friday, November 21, 2008 20:12 [IST]

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani Friday said then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had offered him 10-Janpath to stay in, which currently is the official residence of Congress party President Sonia Gandhi.

“Rajivji offered me 10-Janpath saying why are you not staying here... so that the opposition leader can have a permanent address,” Advani said at the ongoing Hindustan Times Leadership Summit here.

“I said no, I am happy at my Pandara Road office,” recollected Advani.

“Subsequently, my security people shifted me (to 30, Prithviraj Road residence)."

Advani is Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and is the prime ministerial candidate of the BJP for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
