Chhindwara: The seven assembly seats in this district are likely to face tough competition between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, though the Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) and Uma Bharti's Bhartiya Janshakti Party (BJS) may influence results in a few places.
Before delimitation, Chhindwara district had eight assembly constituencies, now it has seven seats - Chhindwara, Parasia, Junnardev, Chorai, Saunsar, Pandhurna and Amarwada.
Former Minister Prem Narayan Thakur, who has been with the Congress for the last 28 years and did not get a ticket from the Congress this time, switched over to the BJP and is now contesting as its nominee from Amarwada.
A total of 100 candidates are in the fray in the seven assembly constituencies of which Chhindwara is the biggest with a total of 1,75,474 voters.
This is followed by Amarwara (1,70,946), Junnardev (1,59,681) Parasia (1,58,225), Saunsar (1,45,723), Chourai (1,45,499) and Pandhurna ( 1,44,853).
Both the Congress and the BJP are banking on new faces to some extent for a victory in the elections.
While the Congress has fielded four new faces, the BJP has given tickets to two fresh entrants to electoral politics.
The BJP did not retain MLA Marotirao Khapse from Pandhurna where it has fielded Ramrao Kavreti, a new face.
