Jammu: As many as 29 independent candidates are trying their luck in the six assembly segments of Rajouri and Ganderbal districts which go to polls on November 23.
In all, 81 candidates are in the fray from these seats for the second phase of polls, election department officials said.
Interestingly, 26 independent candidates are contesting the second phase polls from the Rajouri district alone.
Out of the total of 23 contestants from Rajouri assembly constituency, 13 are independents, the highest for any constituency during these elections so far.
In Kalakote constituency, seven of the 13 contestants are independents whereas Darhal will see four independent candidates, out of 12,vying for the seat. Nowshera, on the other hand, will witness only two independent candidates out of 11 contesting the polls.
In Ganderbal district of the valley, where 22 candidates are contesting, two independents are involved in the battle of hustings from the Kangan while only one is contesting from Ganderbal constituency. Source : PTI
