New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has sought response from IIT Delhi on a petition filed by an Associate Professor, seeking a stay on ongoing proceedings against him, claiming it is based on a malicious complaint of sexual harassment.
Ashok Kumar Keshari, the petitioner, alleged that he is being victimised by his colleagues in connivance with two of his female students who made false and baseless allegations against him.
"The complaint was filed six months after the alleged incident, making it amply clear that it was an afterthought and only to harass him on the sole ground that he had declined to give satisfactory progress report to them," advocate R Venkataraman, appearing for Keshari said.
Justice S N Agrawal after hearing his contention issued notice to the institute and asked its director to file a response.
In this case two female doctoral students of IIT filed a written complaint to the Director of the institute alleging that the Associate Professor had misbehaved with them during a study tour in January 2007.
On the basis of the complaint an inquiry committee was set up in July 2008 to look into the allegation against the Associate Professor.
Keshari submitted the proceeding conducted was wrong as he was not given ample opportunity to defend himself before the inquiry.
