Kerala Assembly session expects to be stormy
Sunday, November 23, 2008 15:31 [IST]

Thiruvananthapuram: The fortnight-long session of the Kerala Assembly beginning tomorrow is expected to be stormy with the ruling CPI-M-controlled LDF and the Congress-led opposition UDF battling over a range of issues, including recently busted terrorist links in the state and the gruelling price hike.

Though the House is mainly meeting to consider a set of legislations including replacement of ordinances, the political rhetoric is certain to dominate much of the time considering the political realignment at the national level and the issues that have cropped up in the state since the law makers met last time.

As it is meeting for the first time after the Congress and the Left parting ways at the Centre, political observers here are of the view that both sides would be unsparing in attacking each other on the floor of the House.

The opposition may try to put the government on the mat by charging it of failing in curbing price rise.

The treasury benches would be retaliating by blaming the Centre for the situation and its negligence about state s vital demands like restoration of PDS rice quota.

The UDF is also expected to force the government to come out with a statement on the security scenario in the state in the context of the arrest of a few youths for suspected links with terrorist outfits operating outside the state.
