Yogi's wife, front-runner for Rajendra Nagar seat
Tuesday, November 25, 2008 07:28 [IST]

New Delhi: The wife of three-time MLA Puran Chand Yogi, who allegedly committed suicide a week ago in the midst of campaigning, has emerged as the front-runner for the BJP nomination from Rajendra Nagar Assembly seat.

Yogi's wife Asha has emerged as the front-runner to get the party nomination from Rajendra Nagar though there are other contenders like local leader R P Singh, BJP sources said.

The party will take a final call on the matter tomorrow morning at a meeting of senior leaders, they said.

Yogi (73), the saffron party's original candidate from Rajendra Nagar, allegedly committed suicide on November 16 in his residence in south-west Delhi's Inderpuri.

The three-time MLA was pitted against Ramakant Goswami of the Congress in the elections and was actively campaigning in the constituency before he took the extreme step.

The Election Commission has rescheduled the polling date to December 13 following the death of the candidate.
