All schools closed due to heavy rains
Tuesday, November 25, 2008 11:06 [IST]
Puducherry: All government run and privately managed schools remained closed in Puducherry for the second successive day today in view of heavy rains.

An order in this regard was issued last night, official sources said.

Puducherry recorded 64.9 MM rainfall in the last twenty four hours, ending 0830 hrs today.

Strong winds in the town and suburban areas uproored a number of trees.

Lakes on the outskirts of Puducherry, especially manapet lake, have received copious inflows since the last few days.

Meanwhile, people in certain areas resorted to an agitation before the slum clearance board office yesterday after their homes were inundated and demanded that authorities provide them tenements as promised.

Police and revenue officials intervened and pacified the agitators.
