Farmers worry about pest attack on Tur crop

Yavatmal: Farmers across the district are now worried about the pest attack on their Tur crops after cotton and soyabean were damaged recently causing heavy losses to peasants.

Over 1.5 lakh hectare of land is under Tur cultivation across the district. The general practice is that Tur is sown along with cotton and soybean by farmers as it gives them additional income.

The crop are in ripening stage and the sudden pest (green stripped caterpillar) attack have concerned them, sources in Punjabrao Krishi Vidyapeeth, said.

The pest attack is over 30 per cent in the district and sky rocketing prices of pesticides have added to their miseries,PKV official Pramod Yadgirwar said.
