Thane: A Jaipur-based ENT specialist was felicitated for selflessly working towards the cause of the poor at a three-day conference of surgeons attended by over 900 doctors from across the world, organisers said today.
Satish Jain, was honoured in recognition of his service for the poor in Jaipur and for performing the maximum number of ENT surgeries without compromising on the quality, organisers of the recently concluded conference, Dr Asheesh Kumar and Dr Ashim Desai told reporters here.
Jain had performed a record number of 600 surgeries in the month of May and 100 more in the next month, Kumar said.
Dr Jain's model will be adopted and promoted beginning with Thane district where teams will be formed to reach out to people in remote areas in need of help and NGOs will be roped in for the purpose, they said.
Similar services were being rendered at Shankara Netralaya and other places in southern India, they said.
The conference was the second largest in the world Desai said adding the largest was held in Iraq where more than 1,200 delegates had attended.
Two world-renowned ENT surgeons, Dr Heinz Stammberger and Dr Dharambhir Sethi were also present at the conference.
Delegates were shown how several modern-day surgeries were being carried out with live telecast of demonstrations.
The conference not only deliberated the latest technologies in ENT but also the ways and means to go in for cost-effective treatment and examine if surgery was necessary at all, they said.
Awareness programmes about causes of deafness, which is high amongst industrial workers must be organised, they said. Source : PTI
