Rahul to hit Delhi campaign trail tomorrow
Tuesday, November 25, 2008 20:06 [IST]
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will hit the campaign trail in the capital for the first time tomorrow addressing an election meeting in an SC-reserved constituency in east Delhi, which is seen as a "counter attack" by his party against BSP chief Mayawati's rallies.

The Gandhi scion will address the rally in GTB Enclave in Dilshad Garden, which is part of Seemapuri constituency. This will be the first ever election rally of Gandhi in the capital which is going to polls on November 29.

Veer Singh Dhingan, the Congress candidate from Seemapuri, and nominees from other nearby constituencies will attend the rally besides Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and other party MPs. Earlier, he was to address the rally at the same venue today but was rescheduled for tomorrow as he was campaigning in Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress hopes to cash in on the Rahul factor to negate the growing influence of Mayawati-led BSP in the national capital.

Eyeing Dalit votes, Mayawati has already attended two rallies in the capital in the past three days and her final meeting will be held in Sultanpuri tomorrow.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has already addressed an election rally in Mongolpuri, another SC-dominated seat, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will wind up the party campaign on November 27,the last day for campaigning.
