New Delhi: A man was today arrested by the CBI and produced in court for allegedly duping an HDFC bank's customer of Rs 2.23 lakh through net banking. Accused Freeman Anosike Aluma was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja, who remanded him to two days police custody.

Aluma was arrested under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and Section 66 (hacking with computer system) of the Information Technology Act. A complaint was lodged by Tarun Pandotra on August 27 with the probe agency alleging that a sum of Rs 2.23 lakh was debited from account of the HDFC bank.

He alleged that on August 23,he received a mail purportedly from the HDFC bank requiring him to furnish details of his account including the password.

Four days later, he received another mail from the bank informing him that a sum of Rs 2.23 lakh had been debited from his account via net banking.

According to the CBI, some beneficiaries in the name of Shubhraj, Manish and Mohammed were added to the complainant s net banking while the amount was transferred to Mohd Yusuf Gurkhoo and money was received by the accused.

Seeking police remand of the accused, the probe agency alleged that his custodial interrogation was required to unravel the conspiracy involving email and bank transaction and the role of co-accused in the case.

The court, allowing CBI s plea, sent Aluma to custodial interrogation till November 27.
