Lawmaker's petition dismissed in Patna
Friday, November 28, 2008 13:37 [IST]

Patna:The petition of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MP Surajbhan Singh, who is convicted for murdering a farmer 16 years ago, was dismissed by the Patna High Court, officials said Friday.

The high court dismissed Singh's petition seeking quashing of a Begusarai court's order after coming to know that trial in the case was likely to conclude soon.

A few months ago, Surajbhan Singh was granted bail by the Patna High Court after hearing a petition filed by him that challenged his conviction by a Begusarai court this year, officials added.

In June, Begusarai fast track court judge Ravi Prakash Dhar Dubey ordered life imprisonment for three people including Surajbhan Singh. He was convicted for the murder of farmer Rami Singh Jan 16, 1992.

Surajbhan Singh represents Bihar's Ballia constituency and is considered close to union Minister of Steel and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan.

The MP faces 30 criminal charges, including those of murder, extortion, kidnapping and looting.
