Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court today granted bail to VHP leader Ashwin Patel, who was arrested by Gandhinagar police for circulating "defamatory SMSes" against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his government.
Justice ZK Saiyad, in whose court the plea was heard, has granted the bail to Patel.
Patel was arrested on the eve of Diwali by Gandhinagar police for sending defamatory SMSes against Modi after the Ahmedabad serial blasts. He has been charged under various sections of the IPC including 124A (sedition).
Earlier, lower courts in Gandhinagar had refused bail to Patel.
