BJP politicising Mumbai terror attacks: Congress
Friday, November 28, 2008 21:41 [IST]

New Delhi: The Congress Friday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to take political mileage from the horrifying terrorist attack in Mumbai.

“This moment should not be used to politicise the issue. We should stand together to face the critical moment. The statements given by senior BJP leaders are highly condemnable. The BJP is playing politics on the issue, which is unacceptable,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.

Tewari urged the BJP to stand with the government and security personnel to fight the situation.

“They should join us to fight the terrorists and salute the brave soldiers who lost their lives protecting the prestige of the country,” he said.

While not ruling out support of locals to the terrorists, Tewari said if Pakistan wanted to make South Asia free of terrorism, it should cooperate with the Indian government at the moment.

“If Pakistan wants to maintain its sovereignty and wipe out terrorism from South Asia, they should cooperate with those facing this menace. It is a moment when they can prove whether they are with us or against us,” Tewari said.

Another party spokesperson and general secretary M. Veerappa Moily said India has asked the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief to come and help find out the roots of the Mumbai attacks.
