Coast Guard increases vigil on Gujarat coast
Saturday, November 29, 2008 15:40 [IST]

Ahmedabad: In the wake of terror attack in Mumbai, Coast Guard and Indian Navy have increased their vigilance in the coastal areas of Gujarat, officials said today.

Coast Guard officials patrolling the coastal areas are on high alert, a senior Coast Guard official told PTI.

"We have ordered our guards to check every boat that goes for shipping in the deep sea in the Arabian sea," the official said, adding even frequency of routine monitoring in the sea has been increased.

It may be noted that the terrorists hijacked a fishing trawler belonging to a Porbandar-based fisherman Vinod Masani, to travel to Mumbai and execute the dastardly attack.

Earlier, Porbandar Boat Association president Jivan Jungi had told PTI that the boat was hijacked by the terrorists when it was on the fishing mission and after reaching Mumbai in the boat, they also killed the captain.

He added that boats confiscated by the Pakistan authorities may be misused by the terrorists to carry out such attacks via sea route.
