Islamabad: At least eight persons were killed and 25 injured today in a suicide attack targeting a check post in Pakistan s troubled northwestern Swat valley, where security forces are battling local Taliban militants.
Seven civilians and a security personnel were among the dead, TV channels reported. A majority of the injured are civilians.
Two vehicles were destroyed in the attack, the latest in a deadly wave of suicide bombings that has claimed hundreds of lives across Pakistan.
The country has witnessed a series of suicide attacks since the military conducted an operation against militants holed-up in the Lal Masjid in Islamabad in July last year.
Former premier Benazir Bhutto was killed by a suicide bomber in December last year while a suicide car bomb attack on the Marriott Hotel in the capital in September killed nearly 60 people, including the Czech envoy.
