Tuesday, December 02, 2008 13:26 [IST]

Ahmednagar: Five undertrials from the tahsildar office jail in Sangamner taluka in the district managed to escape by breaking open the roof, police sources said today.

The five inmates, Santosh Giri, Santosh Jadhav, Dattu Wagh, Babar Bhosale and Sunil Shetty, broke open the roof that had a frame of ironbars and tiles mounted over it and escaped yesterday morning, police sources told PTI. There were four police persons on duty when the incident took place, they said. All of them had been lodged in the same cell and were among 44 others who were housed in the jail, they said.

In a similar incident, three inmates had escaped from the same cell in November 2006, sources said.
